Purple.

It started with this - a not very successful experiment with dip dyeing.

Then the dip dyeing met Decim8. These are a few of the results. Great backgrounds, if nothing else.

Explorations

Starting with these - 'machine networking' with Visual Marks.

I decided  to look in detail at the automatic stitches we had all used - reproducing them in hand embroidery, changing the scale, trying other media, anything  else I can think of!

I began by making cut paper patterns mimicking some of the stitches - as far as was possible. I used magazine pages, choosing ones which were mainly monochrome, although a bit of red crept in there as well.

Each of these repeats is about an inch.

Next, of course, I had to play around with this image in an app or two

Flipomatic. I really like this app for producing textile-like patterns.

Mirrorgram, using one of the in-app filters as well as mirroring.

Kaleidoscope.

Decim8

Fragment - rapidly becom a new favourite.

Griditor -great for sublte changes. I think this looks like inlaid marble.

Leonardo

And last but not least, iColorama. These were all made by blending the original image with other images, either apped versions of the paper cuts or completely different ones.

It is so easy to produce interesting images that I tend to lose track of the fact that I should be thinking about textiles. Can these be translated into textiles, and if so, how? How might I use them, rather than just printing them on fabric and adding a bit of stitch?

That is a much more difficult task...
